theres nothing unnusual about this, cept, equipment you
sign for, and "lose", gets deducted from your wages
whilst your still serving, otherwise people could just
start giving guns and other kit away.;)

I had this happen to me when I got out of the Navy. I
was accidentally issued desert uniforms for a
deployment to Bahrain; my supervisor had a brain fart
and forgot I was getting out and wouldn't be going. I
signed for them and took them anyway, though, because I
thought they'd make good cut-off shorts.

Anyway, when my supervisor realized his mistake, he
made me return them, insisting there were only enough
for the people being deployed. There were actually
shit-loads of extra ones; he was just being a
dick.

That was in May of 2001, I got out in June. At the
beginning of the following year, I was eagerly awaiting
a tax refund of about $350. I was broke, and needed it
to pay rent. When the envelope came, my check was for
$13.11.

You see, I had signed for those uniforms when I got
them, and my prick of a supervisor hadn't bothered to
cancel it. The real pisser is that the guy who ended
up getting those uniforms probably paid for them again.

I used to say, "I love the fucking Navy, and the
Nave loves fucking me."
