On the road it would have have a awful lot of air wash behind it. Third_Reich 3 years ago Just_jack, to be honest i'm suprised the idea hasn't hit it HUGE it's been dormant since the Helicopter was invented but used A LOT less fuel (approximately 1/8th that of a similar sized helicopter) and althrough needs more fuel than fixed-winged aircraft it makes it up with direct vertical descent and a much better manouverability. Design was by a Spaniard and then a Scottish guy bought the idea to England the "Autogiro" has been made in england ever sinse...this dumb yankee hoo-har has merely said "look i can make it work without propellers" dumbass! (oh and the james bond movie was "you only live twice" and the craft was pilotted by Ken Wallis who hold numerous world records.) I've known two people that had them, and neither had a pilots license, and both would take off from airports. One guy had one that was basically a hangglider with a wheeled cart hanging from it with an engine and propeller. The other had a steel pipe about 6 or 8 inches in diameter for a fuselage, with two seats, wings and an empennage with an engine and prop all bolted on. Not for the faint of heart!
