First off...PETA's goal: To liberate every animal in captivity (or 'slaves'). After the majority of the animals who are domesticated and never learned who to fend for themselves, die, the ones remaining will go on to completely alter whatever ecosystem they enter. If humans didn't intervene, species would start dying out left and right. I don't personally care about this, because then another species would fill in the niche but...I would think most of the PETA members would want as many species to survive as possible. Secondly and adversly, I didn't respect the comment Penn and Teller made about choking 100 chimps to save 1 druggy bum. Apparently they find that the value of a life is simply that it has a closer physical resemblance to a human. Most would say that the value of life is based off of intelligence (thus no qualms about eating chicken...but dog, cat, dolphins, etc are a problem...). Humans only think intelligence is the most important factor because they are the most intelligent. On another planet our intelligence wouldn't mean shit if we were to go up against something that has evolved physically to the point to where it could easily kill us/we couldn't kill it. Most other animals dont have a 'chain of command' as to who's life is more valuable...they just try to survive. But I guarantee you that the animals who have some cognitive skills think they are more valuable. I believe these sorts of rational thoughts should be considered when jumping to 'ethical' conclusions on either side of the issue.
